Pros
The actual work and coworkers were often the best part of the job. I gained valuable experience in benefits administration, ACA reporting, vendor coordination, and HR systems.
Cons
Management created an environment that frequently felt reactive, inconsistent, and emotionally draining. Expectations could shift without warning, communication was often unclear, and employees were left feeling like they had to constantly “read the room” instead of receiving direct guidance. Support and recognition seemed highly dependent on mood and favoritism rather than performance or effort. Employees were expected to take on increasing responsibilities while navigating micromanagement, inconsistent accountability, and limited constructive feedback. Strong performers often became the default solution for operational gaps without meaningful support in return. I would strongly encourage candidates interviewing for this department to ask detailed questions about leadership style, turnover, workload expectations, and team culture before accepting an offer. Your experience here will depend heavily on who you report to. You must be prepared to advocate for yourself and your career. Please also understand that there will likely be no movement within this department. In order to progress within the company, you will likely need to go to another team (if there are any roles available).
