Pros

This company had some pros before it’s takeover by UPS, such as Christmas Parties, job security and fair career prospects. Since their takeover years ago, these pros are well and truly gone and now, as you’ll read below, now are the Cons…

Cons

Where to begin Spineless management from top to bottom. More interested in keeping their fellow Operations and Customer Service Management happy and protected then fixing the toxic, backstabbing, gossipy culture created by them. As you may have read on the news, UPS regularly lays off masses of employees as a result of hiring too much during COVID. This is no different in Marken as they are their subsidiary. Every year in the 3rd quarter or so, they will pick a handful of employees to fire. Whether it be through redundancy or slapping employees with made up Personal Improvement Plans in an effort to protect themselves for Unfair Dismissal lawsuits. You simply do not have any job security, even if you are new. A colleague of mine was chosen as one of the unfortunate few to be fired after only about a year in the company. You are not safe at any point. Do you want a role where you could be fired at any point for reasons outside of your control? Pay is horrible even for the logistics industry. Wage growth is non-existent. Since the UPS take over, Christmas Parties have been binned. So have bonuses. Yearly incremental increases to your salary that we all get as standard? Yeah those have been slashed in half too. I hope you get the picture. Achingly Inept Human Resources team who were not paying off my student debt for 5 years until I looked into it and asked, why isn’t it being paid. Only to be met with “oh I guess we forgot, sorry”. Terrible workplace run by cowards, Operations and Customer Service managers mentally stuck in pre-school, and terrible in every way you can think of. STEER CLEAR

Pros

There are no pros if I did not get hired

Cons

Pay advertised was not accurate * Lack of transparency in compensation * Wasted time and travel expenses I had a very frustrating experience with the hiring process. I attended the interview and was told my performance was “perfect,” which made it seem like I was a strong candidate. However, the role was advertised at a minimum of $30/hour, and later I was told the actual pay was closer to $20/hour. That’s a major discrepancy and feels very misleading. On top of that, I ultimately received a rejection despite the positive feedback. Between the misleading pay and the outcome, this process felt inconsistent and unprofessional. I also spent time and money on travel (gas) to attend the interview, which makes the experience even more frustrating. Overall, this felt like a waste of time and could have been avoided with clearer and more honest communication upfront.
