Pros

Room for career growth Remote Gain knowledge in all things benefits and compliance

Cons

If you have AE experience, you may as well not have any. Lockton is like no other broker which can be a good thing, however, the ability to transfer any skills is low. There is a huge learning curve, and in my experience, it was too big to overcome. I was explicit in my interview regarding my level of experience and was reassured that I would be trained accordingly. Instead, I was put on several projects that I led on my own as of Day 2 of my employment, without knowing the systems, the terminology, the contacts and expectations. My failures were then met with micromanagement ("you have 30 minutes to send emails, and then 1 hour to work on a plan document review, etc.") I worked long hours to try to stay on top of the amount of work I had due to the lack of effective training. I was told there was a "work life balance", only to be scolded later on and be told "this isn't a 9 to 5 job". This may differ based on the team you're hired for, but from others experience this seems to be common for this company. Aside from the actual job, the technology associates use is outdated. Nothing is cloud based. You have to remote into a computer somewhere in Kansas City which makes it a nightmare to work in their systems or limits the use of common programs such as Teams and Outlook. Lockton isn't big on being on camera internally, so it can feel isolating as a new remote employee if you're only staring at a photoshopped corporate picture of someone the entire time. You'd expect the onboarding process to be top notch for a company this size, however, you'll find yourself using 5 different systems to elect benefits, PTO, and payroll information. For example, they have employees contact MetLife directly to elect life insurance and they won't seed your HSA account until you open an account directly with Optum. It's 2022 and for a company this size it shouldn't be this arduous for an employee to sign up for benefits which aside from the items mentioned above, are expensive and useless.

Pros

A true “team effort” environment. I think it really depends on who your team lead is and the dynamic of the group you work with. You will get a ton of experience fine tuning skills as they provide constant trainings and resources to learn. Decent pay when compared to competitor companies and great 401k plan. Plenty of company and marketing events. Hybrid work is great. Again to preface, who you work with can make or break the atmosphere, but everyone I’ve met has been extremely nice and willing to help. Opportunities to grow within the company.

Cons

Health benefits could be better. Company is really pushing new business and there can be a lot of work and last minute fires to put out that can feel daunting. There have been quite a few times I’ve worked late into the night to get things wrapped up. You need to self organize or things can easily fall through the cracks very quickly. A lot of meetings that can take up a majority of your day - leaving less time to get actual work done.
