Pros
you get a 20% off discount card, you get to work with a variety of products, sometimes there is free donuts and pizza in the break room.
Cons
no raises, always locked stock rooms that keep you from doing your job fully, 1 three step ladder for the whole store, $8.25 an hour after working at the store for 2.5 years, 6 other positions that people work in that tell you what to do, no video cameras for the parking lot, so my cataletyic converter was stolen from under my van, no full rmu training, being threatened to be fired in team meetings, no recognition of any kind for working there 2.5 years, 3 hour work days 7-10pm and then being harassed at the door for not straightening enough shelves (waiting to leave at around 10 pm) by your supervisor with other employees waiting to leave, pushing carts in to form a line to block the jewelry desk, just recently everyone having to wear a radio with a wire and earpiece, if your lifting and moving boxes like I did the wire could easily be pulled off your ear or the clip on radio hit against something, managers purposly ignore you when you say something, work hour shifts from 6am- 12pm, discount card of 20% taken back when fired, customers asking you questions in automotive and hardware sections and you can't help them because you received no training, no computer in the automotive section to look up car batteries and oil types for each particular car, locked display bars in sporting goods and electronics and locked cases in electronics and hardware and 1 set of keys that only one person has a shift, no pads of paper by the phones; when customers call in and ask you to find something you can't easily, in the warehouse the motorized roll bed is too small for all the boxes upstairs so they have to be dragged down the stairs, most of the flat bed carts squeak and howl loudely customers have complained before about them, and I wrote a note about them to the HR woman but nothing changed about them a year later, no full health care coverage, I started unloading the truck at 5pm then 6 months later the shift got changed to 5am and never came back to 5pm, no layway training, no key machine maker training, straightening shelves all over the place in every section except the 3-4 aisle sections in electronics and jewlery ;they had people working just in them, your told to pick up trash in the front of the store when you don't have a broom or dust pan, multiple products have no price sticker, the crew that stocks the shelves puts too much products on the racks and shelves and I had no way to get them back in the locked stockrooms, I had no way to put price stickers on anything, no time clock to punch in and out on you have to reach around customers to clock in and out on the cash register screens, If your late 1 minute clocking in then K-mart records it and counts it towards firing you, no motorized cart to move long and wide 250-300 lb game room table boxes out of the store and into a customers truck or van, I received no forklift training, another k-100 who was hired at the same time as me did, I wrote a complaint letter to the HR manager and store manager about: being harassed at the door, not being tall enough to reach 2 cereal boxes on the fifth shelf from the bottom at the very back of the shelf, and being threatened to be fired in a team meeting (where only a guy that couldn't speak english well that never unloaded the truck was working there longer) ; I received no apology, and not even one word about the letter from either of them.
