Pedantic and clueless management, partnered with destitute staff morale and pointless product changes make EF Chongqing a pretty dire organization to be a part of. It could be an amazing job, if the management was reduced and by and large let foreign teachers just teach lessons and being mindful of the reasons that brought many of the International teachers there in the first place, which was to experience China. It is entirely legitimate to have teachers work a 40 hours week, just advertise this fact before teachers arrive in China and pay them a competitive wage. Also, there are far too many changes to contracts/hours within the course of the year. The holiday policy is abysmal at my school, and I’ve found it almost impossible to get a decent holiday during my time here - given that I wanted to travel to a neighbouring country during my year here it was very disappointing not to get the time to take a worthwhile trip. Probably the main reason that I wouldn’t recommend EF Chongqing is that it is loosing students at great speed, and now foreign teachers are being pressured to ensure no students drop out of their class, which is a bit desperate. There is no promise the company has a sustainable future in the city. I had experience working with EF in other cities, and while it was not the best, it was miles better than CQ. It has been a sad start to my time in China, as I love the country but my first year here has been tarnished somewhat in my memory.
