Great potential, but a LOT of negatives - Sales Manager EF (Education First) Employee Review

Pros

EF hires people based on their personality and then train them for the job. So, the people you work with are great and you have a lot of fun together. Global presence and potential to move around (if you know the right people). Long vacation (3-4 weeks). Office locations around the world always in a great trendy downtown area.

Cons

A LOT of internal politics and personal agendas. This causes tension and inefficiencies within departments. It is the people who stay around the longest and "play the game" that receive promotions, not those who are the best for the job. Very high turnover, especially in sales. Low salary (starting in the low $30,000, 3% raise every year). No inclusiveness of significant others. Low work/life balance. Overall little desire to acknowledge your personal life. You are encouraged to party, date, live with, colleagues. No HR team; concerns/complaints should be made to your direct supervisor.

Pros

You get to choose your tour and recruit the students you want to bring. The paid chaperone ratio is 6:1, so it is very manageable. The tours are great and the local experts are wonderful.

Cons

Company support is variable. There is high turnover and new consultants are very sales motivated and don't always get the nuances of your school or community group. I have had some WONDERFUL concusltants, but they have always been promoted before I get to work with them again.
