Cielo Response
5yHi, Sue Marks here. I’m really sorry you’re leaving Cielo with such anger and frustration after a long tenure. Every decision we made in the midst of the pandemic was a difficult one and we’ve reflected on them and learned from them. We had to make some really hard decisions in order to preserve as many jobs for as many of our people as possible for the long-term. Like many organizations, we did have to furlough people and ask many to take temporary pay reductions. We paused merit and due to the pandemic, missed our full bonus goals. And every one of those decisions was painful to make and I know was painful to execute and to receive.
We worked to bring people, full salaries and merit back as quickly as possible, and we did. You’ll remember some of our clients had steady or frenzied hiring, while others went on total freezes. And then they opened back up at different rates. As soon as we saw our numbers trending upward, we made everyone’s salaries whole, approved extra time off, paid a “thank you” bonus to all of our employees around the world and started hiring again to begin the recovery process alongside our clients.
2020 was a challenging year and I am so grateful that our people and teams were there for our clients and each other while also adapting to new challenges and stressors at home. I hear your feedback about workload, and our management team does, too. I know it may feel that sometimes we as leaders don’t “get it.” I can assure there were – and still are – many sleepless nights throughout our organization as we all manage through these unprecedented times.
Moving forward into 2021 and beyond, we now are again experiencing the challenges and opportunities of fast growth, with a spike in demand for our services unlike anything we’ve seen before in the history of Cielo. Our future is bright, and we will face those challenges and take advantage of those opportunities together, implementing many new policies supporting our peoples’ desired workstyles, flexibility, and wellbeing.
Best of luck in your new role, and feel free to reach out to me at any time at sue.marks@cielotalent.com.
