Pros

Salary is good for entry level positions. Work hours are flexible. Location is good for people living in Markham, Richmond Hill and Scarborough.

Cons

Company has no forward thinking leadership, the entire company's mindset is stuck in 1990s. Company has no modern minded, open minded, knowledgeable, skilled and forward thinking/innovative managers because 90% of them leave after a few years of resume building. The ones that stay aren't skilled enough to be hired in other companies so they stay. Company of survivors, not thrivers. Most people just want to do minimal work to get a paycheque and play politics to survive, no one actually wants to put in the effort to learn and do innovative work. Innovative work is discouraged here by rest of company employees, not encouraged. You are not rewarded or appreciated for your new ideas and quality work. Luckily they are Canada's first consultant company that scaled to 76,000 employees and has an international presence, making it stable. Company is just that, stable and great place to survive to get a paycheque. If you want to thrive in your career, especially when young, don't stay here for more than a year or your career will die due to lack of learning and growth opportunities and people to learn from. Extremely old workforce, average age is 40+. Extreme difficulties recruiting young people and keeping them for more than a year. Very insecure and egotistic people who try to put you down for good work so they can seem like they know what they are talking about and their knowledge from 1990s is still relevant in 2019.

Pros

no specific positives to highlight from my perspective

Cons

I worked at CGI in both India and the USA and observed similar workplace culture concerns across both locations. The only real difference was HR—India HR felt more supportive, while my experience with USA HR was disappointing. My employment ended shortly after maternity leave due to an alleged “lack of projects,” which I experienced as a layoff. I also observed what appeared to be misuse of position by some leaders, including blurred professional boundaries, preferential treatment, and expectations that went beyond normal workplace roles—at times resembling personal-assistant-style demands rather than professional conduct. Surprisingly, I also noticed inconsistent “policies” applied differently to different individuals. In some cases, it felt like the rules changed depending on who you were. When leadership became aware that someone was related to another employee in the organization, it sometimes felt like that person was singled out or targeted rather than treated objectively. Overall, these practices—whether through inconsistent treatment, perceived power misuse, or favoritism—undermine trust, damage workplace culture, and raise serious concerns about fairness and professionalism.
