Pros
Very nice co workers. Tons of parking (as building is mostly empty), location close to highways and many stores, nice area.
Cons
Your job is handling about 75 or so accounts. You enter the customers info and place an order that usually comes by email. You have to search for the info in Berry's database. Sounds simple but it's anything but. The training is unprofessional, but the coworkers that attempt to train you really try. They know their stuff, but the issue is, everyone does it differently.....so your training is extremely confusing because multiple people train you in very different ways. There are many ways to enter an order or search for information, so many screens to get through - you cannot commit much to memory, and your notes won't make much sense because you get vastly different instructions depending on who is training you that day. It's like being fed with a fire hose. I was given about 75 accounts, WAY before I was ready. They tell you to ask for help if you need to, and your coworkers will help you with a smile on their face. But when you have not been properly trained, you have a LOT of questions, and now your co workers have to stop what they are doing to help you. You end up feeling frustrated and disgusted. You can tell the corporate office in Indiana does not care much for this office in NJ at all. The office furniture is old and cruddy, the wall to my cube was sort of falling apart. The chairs are hard as a rock, and they didn't look very clean. Your desk won't be clean either......office supplies seem to be in short supply (or maybe they are hiding them?)......I was told if a desk is empty, go through the drawers and take what you need. You have to scrounge for the supplies you need at your desk (tape dispenser, stapler, calculator, folders, etc). The Montvale NJ building is 3 floors, and it looks nice from the outside. But there are less than 60 people there on the top floor. The rest of the building remains empty. They run the ad for a customer service position all the time.....they do a job fair for this position a lot too. Now I know why. When I interviewed it was with a manager who read questions to me off a piece of paper. It seemed like she never interviewed anyone before - but I will say she was very nice. The people who remain at this location, most are there for many years - because they were there before they became Berry. Berry bought their company out.....a lot lost jobs, those who stayed are not happy with all the changes. But they have worked there for many years so their salary must be good - it's the only reason they stay. This job will be very hard on your eyes too, the screen is black with light colored text. Then the sheer amount of email you will get on a daily basis is crazy. Sales wants to change a price, change where the product is being made, change the date, the lines go down, etc, and making the changes is anything but simple......then there's a flurry of more emails because they are trying to figure out which sales rep goes with which account. There is a LOT of confusion going on. I see why they struggle to retain new hires. Bottom line, co workers are very nice, but there is an undercurrent of misery there. Oh and at the end of the day, the bosses leave before anyone else......they want to beat the traffic, it's a hard building to exit after 5pm, and they all leave at about 10 minutes to 5 every day!
