Lots of great people, but many negatives - R&D-related Avaya Employee Review

Pros

Avaya has some amazingly brilliant engineers. In R&D, the company at least tends to explore new trends (though not always follow them). The compensation is acceptable. The atmosphere at the lower levels of R&D is very friendly, though quite busy.

Cons

Since the sale to private equity, Avaya has gutted its workforce in R&D. Projects now suffer from a lack of experienced talent. The company has moved to ruthlessly become profitable at the expense of long term growth and success. Morale is significantly lowered by constant layoffs. Decisions are often made by those who are not best qualified to make them.

Pros

The company used to care about customers, but they removed all the sales people who actually visited and consulted with customers to save travel cost.

Cons

The company's newest CEO, Patrick, only cares about getting back to a Cybersecurity company as fast as possible. Can't sell the company fast enough, but buyers can't get past due diligence periods.
