Worked for Academy LTD for a total of 7 years. All the way from floor associate to salaried manager. -Both locations had amazing floor staff. Both in quality of work and personality. -Employee discount is great, and now stacks with sales. -Additional discount programs like ExpertVoice and SellPro are great. -Opportunity for upward growth, company likes to hire internally.
Cons
-Company is now publicly traded. Shareholders and executives are now the top priority. -Heavily push programs customers don't want. Credit Cards, Online Only Sales, Discounts with hidden catches in the fine print. -Management is growing more and more insidious and sour. Upper management is more numbers focused and doesn't care about people. It trickles down to the stores. -My Management team was petty, played childish games with staff and created an extremely toxic workplace culture. -Credit Cards, Credit Cards, Credit Cards. Held above all else. Management success is based on Credit, cashiers performance is out the window, the only thing that matters anymore is Credit Cards. -Academy is losing sight of why people like the store. Less emphasis on guns year after year, less emphasis on ammunition and hunting.
