      Was great, downhill after acquisitions

      Pros

      Originally great teamwork, lots of opportunity to learn and try different areas in your department. Two of the projects I am most proud of to date happened at Ecolab. CEO does a great job from my viewpoint. Benefits are decent, stock purchase plan is nice.

      Cons

      Some overbearing management overshadows some of the other great leaders. After two acquisitions the sprawl of management and extreme bureaucracy makes life stressful. Teamwork has decreased. I don't think the employees are less willing to help, but they can't keep up with unrealistic workload and expectations . So much time is spent fighting fires that thinking long term and truly fixing issues doesn't get much attention.

      Pros

      Free company vehicle (logo'd) and tools provided to you. Make your own schedule but often told you are not doing enough. Can make extra money when you cover routes that people left (because they quit).

      Cons

      Benefits have declined. All benefit coverages have increased in cost per month and decreased total coverage. Overwork people on the weekends and nights. A lot of issues with people being disengaged and just trying to get by. In our area, many people have been on performance plans and threatened to get fired. Many times they can't fire anyone because there are already open areas from those who just quit. People live in fear of getting fired but then when everyone is threatened with it, they understand the threat is not real.

      My time spent with Ecolab was almost as bad as a rusty trombone.

      Pros

      They fly you here and there, and put you up in decent motels while on their dime which was nice. The majority of the folks that I came in contact with in Elk Grove are great, personable people.

      Cons

      Your time is no longer yours, the big blue machine will own you day and night, they promise you the world and when its all said and done, you make peanuts.
