The downside is that the work is not all that interesting. There is more focus on cost cutting, process improvements and backward compatibility rather than advancing the technology through new innovations. There is of course new innovations but quite often products are based on old reference designs with lots of restrictions. This often removes the "fun" out of the engineering as we are marching our work toward a cost goal rather than a innovation goal. Another issue with working there is that because the company is so metric driven they quite often treat workers as assets rather than real people.

The work/life ‘balance’ that Eaton touts and advertises, and the lofty awards they apply for, do not match with the reality behind their office doors. The corporate culture here is intense and you will be expected to be on call 24/7 - taking meetings at all hours of the day. The requirement for constant meetings doesn’t allow space for creative flow or an ability to grow your work and feel proud of your final product. Very poor support network for new hires since everyone is so overworked. The longer you stay, the more responsibilities and dual-roles you’ll be expected to cover. The most successful people I met over the years, were self-confessed workaholics who had someone else back at home managing all of the kids and household requirements. This is not a healthy environment and discussions of stress-related medical concerns are not taken seriously. The culture that Eaton rewards through promotions and bonuses is antiquated, destructive and sexist by default.
