Pros

For a work from home position, it paid decently.

Cons

Worked last year for SAT scoring and it was ok; however, after almost 10 years with Pearson doing the same thing, I found the required shifts inconvenient and the implementation system itself very cumbersom and slow moving. VERY difficult to contact anyone with the company who can give you true answers to questions. Now this year, they have added an incredible amount of new employees....during training, the trainer bragged that they had gone from 1,000 to 3,000 raters. The result is that very few shifts are being confirmed and time in between training and actual participation can be weeks which DOES NOT improve efficiency or accuracy.

Pros

Working from home is a plus

Cons

Despite having a grading rubric to score from, this is a highly subjective role and your manager is ALWAYS right even when they are wrong. ETS allows them to be this way because they usually have at least a masters degree so it only stands to reason that they are perfect and know everything. This is also a company that allows sexual discrimination. If you are a female then you are good to go...it is a 'good 'ole girl's club' and they are proud of it. It is not worth wasting your time for 15 or so hours per month. You can sign up for almost full time but you won't get it and you will get very few hours. I intend to just not show up for work from now on. Have had many discrepancies with my leads and they always win out. Have had a PhD who essentially scored everyone as a 1 (lowest possible score). These are high school kids for God's sake, what do you expect? She was/is sexist.

Pros

great flexibility with scheduling hours, pay seems to be competetive

Cons

Not up front with information that would be relevant, eg I went through the application process, then training and certification in early July, only to be told that no shifts were available until October. Training is minimal. Shifts can be cancelled on short notice, or if you fail the daily "calibration" you are not allowed to work. They offer no assistance if you want to do more practice scoring to improve job performance and/or ensure passing of calibration. Very hard to get someone on the phone to ask questions, etc They don't answer all emails
