Pros

Flexible hours, can work from home

Cons

They try to call your salary "honoraria" in a seeming ploy to avoid tax/employment laws; they do that in spite of offering a 403B program to test readers/raters, they seem to violate some of the overtime laws (missing breaks on overtime assignments, not paying double time when warranted).

Pros

- work with some leaders in the field - colleagues are devoted to doing good work, are great mentors, and are friendly - very strong research centers - good total compensation package: employees can be rewarded in various ways - focused on employee development - strong community outreach - focused on mission and integrity

Cons

- as company grows, business infrastructure seems to grow more and more complex - too top heavy - some managers appear to enjoy a punitive management style (fortunately, not all managers!) - it definitely helps to know the right people, although that is probably true of most companies - management doesn't always seem to take the opinions of stakeholders (and those more knowledgeable than them about process or structure) into account, making unilateral decisions

Pros

work from home (online); most scoring leaders (not content scoring leaders) are competent and pleasant to work with; can get fair amount of hours for a part-time job

Cons

content scoring leaders and administration are incompetent and rude-- more concerned with ego than accuracy/fairness; constant buck-passing by content scoring leaders and administration; "don't bother me" management style; little monitoring of supervisors, so you need to either suck it up and focus on the few pros of the position, or look elsewhere for part-time positions (there are other companies-- Pearson, McGraw Hill, etc.-- who are finally in competition with ETS); ETS makes enormous earnings and their "not-for-profit" status has been ridiculed by more than one analyzing organization
