Pros

Very supportive management, great benefits, positive work environment, good work-life balance. ETS is a great place to work and they treat employees with respect. The training for test developers relies on on-the-job-training so it can be hit or miss depending upon who you are assigned to work with. I was fortunate to work with great people who helped with my professional development. It can be a little overwhelming in the beginning since you learn as you go, but expectations are reasonable for new employees and responsibility tends to be increased with experience. In my experience colleagues and management are very supportive and create an atmosphere of collegiality. ETS is the kind of company where you can build a long career.

Cons

The company culture is very change averse. There is emphasis on length of service over quality of service. If you hang around long enough, you'll be promoted. ETS is terrified of losing employees with experience even if their job performance is lack-luster. Hard work tends to be rewarded with praise, but not necessarily with promotions or compensation. Merit increases are generally given each year, but the difference between the high and low end is not very significant and tends to be based more on where you are within your "salary band" than on performance.

Pros

Ability to work flexible hours Semi-decent pay for a work at home job Work is tedious but not particularly difficult Overtime can push up wages

Cons

Have worked here for a long time without a raise -- the former CEO gave himself a million dollar salary while cutting pay for many staffers No respect for raters even with years of experience-- our input is not sought or considered -- we are often spoken to as if we were new employees and not very bright ones at that Petty, nasty, supervisors -- often rude and unhelpful -- many should have been fired years ago for laziness and incompetence -- promotion to a supervisory position is seems completely arbitrary Work is often cancelled at last minute with no compensation offered We are asked to work major holidays without any extra pay -- that's not nice!

Pros

Very nice people work there. Once you are there it is a secure position. There is some training available. As others have said, there is usually a good work/life balance. There are some very smart people hidden there. Great benefits. They seem to really want to look out for your family.

Cons

Very slow moving. It seems their answer to innovation is to acquire other companies, rather than to empower their employees to innovate. Very hard to get a change done. Multiple layers of management. I had always assumed working in govt would be similar. The flip side of it being a stable company was that there were people there that hadn't upped their skills for a while and they were there because the system let them.
