Pros

The company provides solid compensation and benefits. Managers are lax about working hours if you fulfill your duties well and on time. Laid-back atmosphere. Friendly people. Several group outings during the year provide time to interact with co-workers.

Cons

Not the most exciting place in the world to work. It can sometimes feel like you're treading water. Performance review process could be better designed and more informative. Managers could be more attuned to when an employee is ready to move up and take on additional responsibilities. Very risk-averse culture.

Pros

Dow Chemical has good benefits. They work to make engineer compensation competitive in the Texas gulf coast. There are many talented folks at Dow who work hard to be the best in their field. Dow also supports flexible work schedules and the ability to work from "remote offices".

Cons

There are a lot meetings. You can easily fill a week with nothing but communication meetings. However, you can choose your level of involvement. There can also be a lot of bureaucracy when trying to get small projects under-way.

Pros

Communication and collaboration between employees and supervisors is great - the "human element" truly is exemplified at Dow. The work-life balance is great, I can easily work a flexible schedule and take Fridays off or leave early during the week if necessary.

Cons

While there is a great opportunity to move around within such a large company, upward movement is slow.
