Pros

Lots of areas to get involved in. Employees can work on projects that are in many areas of technology. Opportunities for advancement are present.

Cons

Dow has a lot of policies and procedures that are not explained well to new employees. These policies and procedures sometimes don't seem to apply to what they are being used for and no one seems to know why they are used but only says that they should be used.

Pros

Dow is a well-structured company. Shift from basic chemicals to specialty means less cyclical profits and employment. Very concerned about safety.

Cons

Too old and big for it's own good. The policies and procedures on projects became useless formalities that chewed up several people's time and drive. Progress is slowed by paperwork and waiting on so many other people to get things done. Massive layoffs, 10% and then another 5% worldwide, when Dow over-extended their credit in jont venture with Kuwait oil co. and Rohm and Haas buyout.
