Pros

Great company to work for, great opportunities for advancement. Excellent benefits. Public has come to know Dollar General as a friendly store, often knowing their customers by name. Creates a sort of a "family" atmosphere. Not something you will find at Wal-Mart or Kmart. I am proud to work for Dollar General, they are a simple company that started off small and are growing by leaps and bounds everyday, while the competitors are going bankrupt Dollar General is growing stronger everyday with new stores opening weekly across the country, creating new jobs for everyday people.

Cons

Lots of hours as a store manager, maybe not a good career choice for someone with a family

Pros

The job is predictable due to the weekly store mail that gives specific daily tasks to be completed, the pay is acceptable, the benefits aren't bad. Job security in this financial time is pretty good.

Cons

Long hours, constantly changing work hours allowed each week, no individuality (not always a bad thing either). Always feeling like "Big Brother" is watching my every move.

Pros

It is easy if you can just do what you're told without questioning and if you can not care about your employees

Cons

Long hours, constantly changing priorities, poor life/work balance especially for hourly employees. You do not get to merchandise, mange, or think outside of the box at all. You are asked to get tasks accomplished and provide great customer service, and whatever else with ever declining payroll and ancient systems that create double work. You do not get to develop personnel, and the DM actually runs your store. You can't do anything that costs or affects anything in your store without DM approval.
