Zero Growth, Low Pay and Inexperienced Management
Pros
Low hiring standards means it’s easy to get in and earn experience for a future role at a more serious company. Use this to your advantage. A great place to get that initial experience as long as you make peace with the fact that you will have to go on the job hunt after a year or so in order to progress.
Cons
- Low pay, way below market & no annual increases. They use their global presence to discriminate in terms of pay. Your equal in another country, with less experience, could be earning 3-4X your salary. Their reasoning is that living standards differ country to country. I disagree. They should work on a global pay scale, and pay a global market rate for their value add. It is not your place to decide anyone’s standard of living for them. If the same salary means someone in India lives like a king, so be it. You won’t slash someone’s salary if they get hired in New York then move to a third world country so it’s a double standard. - You will not progress. It is even stated in black and white that upward movements in company do not include salary bumps, and your current salary remains even with increased responsibility - Management is clueless. They make decisions on a whim which 9/10 times make zero sense, including those that affect your career without consulting you. Managers more worried about their image, sounding smart using business lingo like “synergy & alignment”, and role status than actually running a successful team. The CEO also seemed uninspired to me, nice as he is. Company tenure duly reflects all this at an average of 7 months. - Management hires at an astonishing rate to replace the high rate of outgoing employees. They would rather hire than upskill. You will see weekly emails of new joiners, anywhere between 25-40 weekly! In the time I was in the company, it was not much bigger than when I started, meaning the vast majority were replacements. - If you’re not one of the original “friends” from Uruguay, forget about any growth prospects. A childhood friend with no experience will get a senior role before a highly skilled and experienced contributor already in the team. - Many members in my team are TERRIFIED of being fired at any moment, as that’s the culture that has been cultivated. One of extreme fear. Do as you’re told or get fired on the spot. When I resigned I can’t tell you how many colleagues contacted me asking “how I did it” - essentially how I “got out” and asking for help on how to find new roles elsewhere for themselves.
