A retrospective

Pros

The biggest spirits company in the world with great brands such as Johnnie Walker, Crown Royal, Smirnoff, Captain Morgan and Baileys. Incredible resources at hand, good company values statements, good compensation, diversity, community involvement and social responsibility. Flexible hours and generous sampling budget. Mostly good people

Cons

Very small boys club and seat of the pants management style in spite of all the really smart and dedicated people surrounding that circle (North America). Tough to break in and easy to get frozen out. It should be a much better performing company than it is.

Pros

work/life balance, posh office surroundings, quarterly alcohol allowance,

Cons

This company was more about who you know than what you know (very high school like). Layoffs were a constant threat and a part of regular operations. Build 'em up and knock 'em down mentality permeates the culture. Upward mobility non-existent. I once applied to an internal position to move upward and was told I didn't have enough business knowledge after working there for almost 3 years. HR is completely useless and functions very under-handedly, working against those who are targeted or whose time is up. Management are not respected leaders, but rather henchmen. No surprise they are losing market share. The game is up Diageo.
