Pros

Ergonomics group is awesome. Kitchens are functional. On-site (an honor based snack bar) is a nice addition. Forget breakfast/lunch? Ave C (and the delivery guy, Craig) is great!!!

Cons

Two-faced supervisors and managers. DexCom does it their way regardless of the FDA CFR. Pay is waaaay below industry standard. No wonder Dexcom has such a high turn over rate. Dexcom has recently turned away from American workers and started hiring (at an exponential rate) tons of H1B Indians. Why?? They can pay lower salaries for substandard work. Simply waiting for the next FDA audit to see how many violations we shall receive in a FDA483

Dexcom Response

We have grown quickly, and it may be hard to see all the efforts being made throughout Dexcom, and the same growth that has created great opportunities for our employees sometimes also creates challenges for those same employees. We are absolutely committed to complying with the requirements of the laws and regulations administered by the FDA and the many other government authorities with jurisdiction over our products and people. These laws and regulations can be complicated and there may not always be one clear answer: our employees are encouraged to raise issues with their supervisors and with our Regulatory, Quality and Legal departments, and when applicable, our HR and Compliance departments as well. Dexcom is a great place for employees who thrive on the challenges presented by our fast growth, rapid innovation cycles and the complex requirements of the medical device industry, and who are comfortable raising and resolving issues in a collaborative manner.

Pros

Pay is better than average. Other departments seem fairly competent and more open and seem to actually care about the company and their job.

Cons

Management is absolutely terrible. Even on their internal newsletter they know that inter-departmental communication needs severe improvement across the whole company. Don't bother asking your supervisor or manager things. They LOVE to ignore multiple emails and if they ever choose to reply to you, once in a blue moon, you'll usually get a typical "non-answer" to your question or concern. The new people are probably all happy go-lucky and will post 5 star reviews only because they haven't been here long enough to fully realize the management issues...I was the same way, until I had questions, concerns or problems. Ask some of the coworkers that have been here since the beginning, for several years, and you'll know the truth, that this is a typical mamangement problem; there is only one out of a dozen or so supervisors that actually cares enough to follow up with you and address your concerns. If you don't already have an anti-depressant medication of some sort prescribed to you already, I recommend getting one before starting this job, before you go into severe depression from the general atmosphere with this department. It's what I have had to do to deal with this environment.

Passive Leadership Model - Toxicity Creeping In

Pros

Dexcom offers a great product. There is a strong desire among many staff members to use their careers to help people. The benefits and remuneration are competitive. The company appears positioned to benefit from tremendous growth in the near and mid terms at least. There are a number of fabulous individual contributors across many teams who are both exceptional at their trade and wonderful people to work with.

Cons

Very passive leadership leading to a lack of team identity, role conflict, role ambiguity, little to no help from leadership in remediating escalations, and lack of what I would call "organizational citizenship" among leaders and individual contributors alike (actions routinely taken to protect the organization). There is no 'effective' resource planning taking place leaving many of the star players overworked, mentally fatigued, and nearing burnout. Feedback and personal career development seem to be fleeting notions to all but a small number people reporting to the rare and exceptional manager despite elaborate work done by HR to overhaul title, job descriptions, and career ladders. Management often avoid action until mistakes or problems can no longer be ignored leaving fewer options at their disposal for remediation.
