Great team poor management

Pros

Worked with a great team, everyone offers assistance when they have the capacity to. Lots of communication from the team. Salary is great.

Cons

Unfortunately management only cares about the lawyers and support staff are disposable as the lawyer “makes the big bucks”. If you aren’t placed with a lawyer that has a great personality you are screwed and left to be disrespected and shot down each and every work day and then ultimately wrongfully dismissed from your role. It is also expected (by some not all) that you work outside of your work hours without approved overtime, if your lawyer keeps you busy. They don’t celebrate support staff which I was quite disappointed coming from a smaller firm before starting at Dentons. During the holidays we received a $150 gift card with no bonus (for such a huge corporation this is a huge let down).

Extremely stressful

Pros

Free coffee and a nice view.

Cons

Micro management, status reports on top of team meetings and one on one meetings. Which is frustrating because they will not listen to staff concerns. Firm keeps expanding its user base with a skeleton staff for IT resulting in a very high number of end users to support/support tickets,l. Most of your day is going through tickets you're essentially helpdesk no matter what your title is. No work / life balance, multiple maintenance windows each month and support calls can come in at any time including 3am. IT management has way too many active projects. Lack of meaningful PMO, engineers have to be project managers on top of doing the project work and supporting multiple systems and support tickets. A step backwards on my career.

Toxic

Pros

Regular paycheck and insurance. Some great attorneys to work with/ for but unfortunately Dentons is just not a good place to hang your hat everyday.

Cons

An unprofessional, disrespectful and discriminatory environment. Toxic. Inept managers. Stay away from this place if you value your health and well being. You will be treated as a child versus an experienced professional. They constantly speak of inclusion yet are the opposite of that. There is a strong culture of shaming, any little mistake and coworkers, attorneys, managers will do their best to make you look bad. Their operations are terrible and that is why the pay is a bit higher but the headaches you experience are not worth it. The owners of the company take a hands off approach and offer no support to the people who make their practice run everyday. Take this seriously… it’s your life, health.
