      Carrot and stick - will you make Partner?

      Pros

      Career Development, variety of work and opportunities for advancement. Deloitte is a very friendly place to work, with a lot of motivated, intelligent people, and the Partners are real human beings with an open door policy who seem to have a genuine interest in helping their people to succeed.

      Cons

      Work life balance can be tough. A lot of the consulting projects that I tend to work on involve being based on client sites, often away from London, for 4 or 5 days a week.

      Deloitte the best experience of the Big 4 accounting firms.

      Pros

      Its a Big 4 so you know there's going to be a lot of work, and long hours, but the environment at Deloitte is great. They use the top technology better than the other Big 4, and the professional development is top notch. I've worked with employees of all the Big 4 accounting firms, and I've seen their techniques and methodologies first hand, and I feel that Deloitte is by the company that uses most common sense. Deloitte has been at the fore-front of diversity and developing programs so that employees have a better work/life balance.

      Cons

      Long hours, and you tend to have to neglect personal relationships at times. The work can require a lot of travel to many locations, which can be a plus or negative depending on your situation. Sometimes I've felt that the company's work/life balance speak is just on the surface and they don't practice what they preach, but in the end, the profession is what it is, and the Deloitte is the best ofthe Big 4 in understanding the employee's needs.

      Great brand name, but is that enough?

      Pros

      Brand name recognition on CV; you will encounter a wide range of talent(colleagues and clients). Projects are often interesting but one also runs the risk of getting slotted into a particular role. Good personal time off policies and decent attempts to ensure work-life balance.

      Cons

      Wide compensation range for people at the same level, especially if you transfer within Deloitte, you can expect getting the short end of the stick with respect to salary level adjustments lack of recognition and respect for lower level employees, promotions more often than not influenced by politics. Benefits leave much to be desired, esp with respect to immigration support and 401 (k) matching.
