The large firm and audit size often impose a lot of overhead and needless processes and procedures to be completed. There is also a lot of politics involved in getting staffed. The staffing managers are responsible for putting a body in a role and does not worry about your skills/capabilities, and career interests. Once you find your "niche" this mostly goes away but if you cannot find a group of people to support and protect you during downtimes in staffing, etc. you will have a hard time getting a good rating and therefore large raises. Also the compensation is below what you would exect at other strategy firms however this was improving prior to the economic crisis.

Very big consulting firm, too many moving parts. Not the most organized. I am extremely disappointed with the new crop of industry hires that Deloitte has been hiring. Perhaps it is due to a competitive industry, however, I dont see how some of these people made it past the first round of interviews. There is sometimes a lack of management oversight on a project, and the consistency of quality delivery has unfortunately varied. Review and rating process is inconsistent and varies with the counselor and project manager one is assigned to. I consistently recieved strong ratings, yet at the end of my 2nd year, I made a little more than a new hire BTA with no experience. Please explain to me how this is fair.. I would imagine that a company this reknown on helping others, would be able to take care of its own people.
