Pros

in the early days the company rocked. lots of fun and take on the world mentality. as it grew, it became less of a place you wanted to come to work to the point where it was absolutely no fun. the stock upside was gone and the pain/gain ratio was imbalanced. i had 17 bosses in my 7 years there and only 1 was left 6 months after i did. i agree with the posting on the ex pat side. i was one and had to fight tooth and nail for a decent position when i came back. no one in dell us marketing thought the international experience was worthwhile. that initial manager i reported to only survived 3 months at dell!

Cons

lack of strong middle management. think about this...of all the great tech companies, IBM (numerous), TI (compaq founders left TI), Intel (numerous), etc... who had managers leave, no single great company has emerged from a person leaving dell.

Pros

Some of the people that work there are great people to be around. The pay is not great but just ok. My now overpriced medical insurance. There is more available parking these days.

Cons

The stress, especially for those in customer facing roles. Opportunities for advancement do not exist anymore. One always has to be on guard because ever since the first round of layoffs the needs of the business will outweigh yours. Promotions do not go to the most qualified. Brown nosers seem to do the best. Having Dell on your resume just isn't what it used to be. Sometimes multitasking isn't the most efficient way to be doing things. No raise this year but I guess that is ok Dell needs that nickel more than I do

Pros

Exposure to new products and technology, diverse backgrounds of folks you work with. Dell has made some good strides on internal communication through intranet and blogs - quite unique versus other companies. While currently in question, the bonus and stock structure is competitive or better.

Cons

Lack of vision, leadership brought in from outside many times. Motivation to go above and beyond is now lacking. Internal mobility has been recently stifled, yet for some reason external hiring in some areas continues. The company is a good 5 years behind the curve in terms of employee tools and systems (phones, VPN, remote tools, teleconferencing and video conferencing, SIP services, etc).
