Pros

Benefits were excellent. Generally a nice place to work. Most of the time people are generally interested in helping you achieve. Most of the people I worked with were genuinely concerned about each other which made it easier to come in to work. Bonuses were usually fair and generous.

Cons

Long hours, culture of living for your job. Unusual differences in compensation. Not unusual for a associate to make more than team lead or even manager. Many personality clashes and a general level of unprofessional behavior involving personal relationships. Lots of "its not what you know, it's who you know" type of activity.

Pros

At one time I believed that a large company with a good reputation would be a great place to work. However after 2 years at Dell I have realized that just like every other company that the environment is only as good as the manager. In my case I have an angry, manipulative , egotistical, condesending manager that constantly hands out thinly veiled threats at the drop of a hat because he consistently over steps his bounds, and his managers call him out on it.. To top it off he over promises and then under delivers, which makes for a very hostile working environment to say the least.

Cons

Management, environment, community, middle managers especially, life work balance, travel, managers with poor people skills that have no business being a manager, in services especially the people making the decisions clearly have no idea how to manager a technical group let alone a technical product. Dell needs to get out of the assembly line mentality, and bring in managers that understand technical environments, and technical resources if they ever hope to be an industry leader in Dell IT Managed services. Furthermore the longer the middle managers are allowed to hamper development and innovation, the further Dell will slide as a whole in the IT Services industry.

Pros

Dell is a fast paced, innovative company. It is very stable and positioned well to survive a long-term economic slump.

Cons

Dell is struggling to move from a small, rapid growth company to a large, mature enterprise. Systems and processes are not robust or flexible. One example is hiring and budget management processes are often controlled and managed at the General manager level instead of being delegated to lower level managers. The company doesn't have the infrastructure to effectively delegate and manage these functions to achieve short term goals below the senior executive level. Dell has some great plans to revolutionize services attached to hardware, but progress is too slow.
