Pros

They really do hire great people, so I walked out with a lot of great friends that I’ll have for a lifetime.

Cons

Literally everything. Nothing positive about this place. The culture is beyond toxic, they play favorites with their account executives. This is the only sales organization that I’ve been a part of that doesn’t evenly distribute leads among their reps. It is not a fair round robin of inbound leads; instead, they give their top reps 20 inbounds a week and their least favorite reps 5 inbounds a week. The managers don’t know what they’re doing. They have no experience being managers, or they have experience being managers and don’t know the Deel product well at all so they’re actually the least helpful people ever and don’t even help you develop your sales acumen. The management here lies and denies every concern that is ever brought to their attention and couldn’t care less about their employees. They mass hire and mass fire people with no regard for how it affects their employees’ lives. They also keep bringing on new products to sell with no training on how to sell them and they just throw you into the deep end and expect you to succeed somehow. Everyone’s mental health here is absolutely deteriorating, and the only reason any reps are still there is because they are willing to sacrifice their mental health so their options can vest. Upper management is beyond toxic here - they pretend like they care and like they’re listening, but they don’t care about you and fired so many people last year with no warning and no PIP. Absolutely awful toxic culture. Avoid this place at all costs.

The Sales team has heard the feedback on lead distribution and have continued to communicate expectations in all roles across sales. Regarding managers, we have a variety of experience levels in sales management specifically - from highly experienced to new in role and promoted internally. For 2023 we announced and have been committed to up-skilling and training our managers to operate more effectively at this scale. Deel is one of the hardest manager jobs there is due to our complexity of product, internal organization, communication requirements, and being fully remote so even for more experienced managers its a challenge. We can do more and more here to support. Regarding new products and product enhancements and changes, yes, this will continue to be the case as we grow, iterate, and scale. We hear you that we can do better in enabling sales in this effort.

Pros

PEOPLE: Deel has employees in almost 100 countries from all walks of life. There is no better company to learn from people of every culture, background, and experience on a global, yet intimate level. In my opinion, almost every person at Deel has three defining characteristics: smart, humble, and hardworking. The opportunity to collaborate, work incredibly fast, and build amazing things is found with the people at Deel. LEADERSHIP: Deel has incredibly ambitious and visionary leaders. I joined Deel when the product was contractor payments, sprinkled with some EOR. 2 years later, Deel also provides Global Payroll, US Payroll, HRIS, Mobility, and Incorporation! The founders (and other leaders) just have the "it" factor. Deel is a generational company with the right people at the helm. PRODUCT: Deel's product is best in market because we eat our own dog food. Few companies have built a startup of Deel's scale and speed in a global remote environment. Deel has been in the fortunate (or unfortunate if you ask people team haha) position of navigating HR on an extremely global level, allowing us to intimately know the challenges our customers face. CAREER: Deel provided me with endless opportunities for personal growth and career development. A fast-growing company in a dynamic environment, built on extreme trust and ownership seems to be the perfect storm for career growth. I have seen 20+ of my friends at Deel promoted to Manager and Director levels. People are rewarded and recognized! There are few companies like Deel that provide similar growth opportunities.

Cons

NOT LIFESTYLE: Could be considered a con based on personal priorities, but Deel is not a lifestyle company. It's fair to assume that a "remote tech startup" would provide flashy benefits and emphasize work-life balance — but that is not Deel. There are great tech companies that provide that sort of environment, but everything comes with a cost. They may potentially lack career growth, fulfillment at work, and learning. Those three you will most definitely find at Deel instead. EXTREMELY REMOTE: Another con to some may be working in a very remote environment. Remote work is challenging – doing it globally at every timezone is even more. It takes patience, flexibility, and sometimes early/late calls. One who prioritizes workplace camaraderie may be disappointed.

Thank you for your thoughtful review and for being a leader on the Partnerships team at Deel. We are happy to see that you are happy with the people, company mission / product, and leadership at Deel - and that the pros outweigh the cons for the most part. You make some fair points here , especially on our fully remote work environment. It can be challenging to work at a fully remote company, it does take resilience and adaptability. We are working on opportunities for team members to gather in person to build relationships and camaraderie.
