Great if you want to feel good about the work you do, not great for money and stability.
Pros
If you really like helping people you will feel satisfied and if you need flexibility. Management is usually easy to deal with. Family environment with co workers. Very personal with clients and so you will learn how to deal with people effectively.
Cons
When you really need a schedule you can depend on this is not for you or only a second job.. rarely full time consultants. Raises don't happen and Consultants are the lowest paid.. People are under the impression that we make a lot on commission but that largely depends on hour breakdown and local economy. So we don't make close to what people think, even others on staff act as if we make so much and the CSR. makes at least 3 dollars more. It is a shame. I love the job and would stay as a consultant even without advancement if they valued there senior consultants, as is now 2 years in and with Bridal background and I'm down to 5 hours on a slow season. I could get more maybe 10-12 but would have to make myself available to only them and therefore not be available for other stable part time work..
