Pros

Seattle - The Seattle branch feels like a family in the sense that the people are seeking to build relationship with you. It is a fair, reasonable, and healthy culture for those who are looking to build career-long relationships. - For my fellow superintendents out there: in my opinion the Seattle branch has done an incredible job of attracting craft talent. If you join, contribute to this. Overall - DPR overall is extremely well-resourced and composed of hard-working, professional, and high-performing people. If you put in the work and care, DPR will take you to the next level in your career, and take care of you as well (actual mentorship/coaching, training, options for interesting roles, pay increases, bonuses).

Cons

DPR overall can be susceptible to employee "high speed wobble" (you will need to practice effective communication and implement boundaries to prevent getting overworked, which is typical of my experience in construction). Something that sets DPR apart from the competition is it is (historically) highly trusting of its people, and likewise with great power comes great responsibility (and at times, intense learning curves) for employees. DPR overall is a growth-mindset culture, which is a strength... sometimes it can also be a growth-obsessed corporate culture.... The difference can be a fine line, but it is an important difference. With respect to this (and work-life balance), DPR will be for you what you make of it. Understand your max capacity, find the quality people who will both push you to achieve that AND listen to you/respect your needs, and set appropriate work-hour boundaries where needed.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! We actively work to building long-term relationships with our teammates and we're glad that was part of your experience in working with us. You're right that we do have a high level of trust in our people and empower everyone to make the right decisions for their projects. We support people in doing that in many ways, including through training, coaching, and a team-based structure.
