Pros

Location in DC, happy hour

Cons

I have worked in a variety of places my entire life, but this company was by far the worst I have ever worked for. For the most part, staff were okay (aside from constant gossip). Unless you are a favorite (which by the way you have zero control over this), these people will emotionally abuse you and your supervisor will do nothing about it. I cried every single day toward my departure at this company due to a higher up here, every single day I had extreme anxiety and had to use calming methods before going into work. Other individuals also noticed that I was being mistreated and asked me multiple times because they would see it happening on a daily basis. Again, I have worked for more than a few company’s and I have never experienced what I did at DLA. Time and time again, I attempted to talk to my supervisor about ways to improve or just general guidance, and I was blown off/ignored. I will never forget this company for as long as I live- it taught me what to always avoid in my professional career. Supervisors here do not care about staff and will not try to help you perform better in any way. Their main concern is the individual who is above them (higher up). As a supervisor, if your employee tells you a comment someone says to them, it is their duty to get to the bottom of it as opposed to sweeping it under the rug like it did not happen. Be cautious and carefully read reviews on sites such as Glassdoor to see what the company is all about. You don’t want to end up in a situation like mine where everything seems to be going perfect, and then out of nowhere you’re forcefully being shoved out of the door within a two month time span. My supervisor never bothered to listen to what I had to say. If you’re an attorney or associate, be my guest. If not, do not unless of course you are a favorite. Thanks for reading.

Got weird

Pros

Pretty good salary and benefits.

Cons

So many attorneys have left, the NY office is a ghost town. Non-attorneys do random tasks for attorneys in other offices on an emergency basis. It's demoralizing to have no connection to cases anymore, no face-to-face working relationships.

Pros

For those who are good at negotiating salaries, there is the appeal of a more than average paycheck. They will also promise you the world to get you to sign. Beware, if it's not in your contract, you have been duped.

Cons

It is the absolute worst place I have ever worked at. In my 20 year career I have never seen people treated as poorly as they are at DLA Piper.
