Pros

Good sales experience, customers like to chat, was fun to sell something I'm passionate about, decent pay and compensation, learned a lot about hunting, fishing, and outdoor activities.

Cons

I don't even know where to begin with these people. I enjoyed the job, but the lack of training I received made the job extremely difficult. There was no orientation period and the only training I received were some online tutorials about gun sales, and how much trouble I could get in if I screwed it up. I was given no instruction on even administrative things (i.e. getting a name badge, operating the time clock, setting up direct deposit, etc.). I was forced to run the entire department myself the second day I was there. Also, when I went to ask to get some time off for a family vacation (thee weeks before), my manager told me to fill out a request form, and put it in his mailbox. I did not hear anything about it for awhile, and assumed it must be approved. That was until I noticed a stack of requests hanging out of his mailbox, that he had not even touched. In the end, he did give me the time off. When I got back, I was notified that I would basically be getting replaced by a transfer and a previous employee, because I worked too slow for their liking. This was a result of me having to ask people how to perform certain tasks, since I was given no instruction or training on how to do them. Absolute nonsense.

Pros

The employee discount is great-25% 50% discount on brands for associates Will work with you on schedule and availability a (flexible) Easy work and not supervised too often

Cons

Management does not make expectations clear with associates and you will find out too late if you're not making the grade with your hours severely cut and being surprised with a bad review with no raise when you thought you did good. Rather than talk to the associate about what's going on or if you're not up to par they just cut the hours drastically to force you to quit and start a new job search not caring if the economy is tight or if you're supporting yourself. They can play favorites too with some that complain and don't pick up as much slack. Usually not enough staff on the floor that you're expected to cover more than just your department. Even on a weekend it could be one person per department. They treat you more like a machine to do multiple tasks than a person. They expect the tasks to be done quickly yet you have to stop to help the customers and that can slow you down.
