Pros

Terrible leadership with too many politics. It’s not about building creative product, it’s about the leadership team going shopping and bringing back product to copy. Everyone will tell you that you are doing a good job to your face and talk bad about you behind your back back. Horrible for creatives.

Cons

Leadership team was the worst

Pros

Like many corporate jobs you get good health insurance and moving benefits but for me that is the only pros.

Cons

The company either does not understand or want to understand what an industrial designer does. This results in your day consisting of designing low quality copy-cat products produced at factories that do not care about the quality or look of the products. The over feeling is Dicks does not value innovation, teamwork, or building an authentic design process. Very frustrating place to work if you are a passionate person.

Pros

- Great work life balance. Not sure about other teams, but my team is really flexible. We work remote every Friday, and I usually take an hour out of my afternoons to hit the gym (during work hours). - The campus is really nice. The food is good, fitness center is top notch, and it's cool that they have intramural sports leagues. - Modern software technologies and methodologies are used, for the most part.

Cons

- Lack of transparency from upper management. I think they try to be transparent and they always promote transparency, but in reality I don't always truly feel that transparency. - Leadership team is not that great (in the technology org). There are a couple great leaders, but they are very few and far between. Most middle management seems to be a little bit immature in their leadership abilities, playing way too much into office politics and acting out of selfishness rather than genuine care for the teams. I would even go as far as to say that a few of the managers can be cocky and arrogant. - There is a MAJOR underrepresentation of women in the technology organization. They need to put more effort into recruiting women engineers. - The location. Hate commuting way out past the airport when I'd ideally like to live on the east side of the city. It really restricts you to the western suburbs, unless you want a 60+ minute commute. - The culture can seem slightly disingenuous. They have their values and mission statements, but in reality they usually come off as over-marketed propaganda statements that no one really pays heed to.
