Pros

I was motivated by the free membership and the part-time hours.

Cons

Support from Curves International to the individual location I worked for was ineffective. Leaders assigned to assist stores are behind the times with training development and seem to be experimenting with their stores rather than analyzing specific needs and tailoring solutions to those needs. If something is working in Tokyo, Japan, International believes it can work in a small retirement town in California. When given feedback, it was not considered. Instead, owners are expected to continue spending their own money to try different methods to increase profits, all the while losing money. As an instructional designer who worked there part-time while recovering from an accident, it was very discouraging.

Pros

Wonderful to see people get fit and healthy. Flexible hours. Love the members.

Cons

No US marketing. Franchise fees and marketing fees are high compared to support from corporate.

Pros

Coworkers were great. Very friendly atmosphere. The job itself wasn't too difficult, really. Reasonable expectations. Usually.

Cons

Holding company that owns CI recently acquired Jenny Craig also, and in the process of merging the two sets of support staff, many poor decisions were made, and were poorly communicated to the Texas team. Increasing concern over job security resulted in a large exodus of staff in late 2013, early 2014. These fears were justified as massive layoffs occurred throughout late 2014. At this point, I would wager the Waco office will be shut down in the near future. Executive decision-makers routinely overlook and ignore the front-end, ground-level staff, to the point that decisions would be made, and franchisees notified, and the corporate phone-bank support staff would be left in the dark to policy changes.
