Pros

Employees are friendly and there is minimal competitiveness and very few cliques.

Cons

Management is RIGID. Layoffs and pay cuts without warning, even though the firm is doing well. Double standards in items such as vacation flexibility. Very strong emphasis on chargeability to the point of hypocrisy (we are encouraged to take our PTO when times are slow, but then when we actually request the PTO there is resistance in allowing us to take it). At the same time, there is strong emphasis on business development and other nonchargeable projects, but if we focus on these then we are also reprimanded for not having enough chargeability. Ridiculous review process that makes everyone more and more like a number every year. Very little appreciation for hard work and effort. Management makes misleading statements and is not always honest. Nobody has ever heard of the firm in the marketplace. Very suburban-employee atmosphere. Many of the employees have low ambition since they have family, children, and other priorities. The firm is insanely cheap - they even have people manning the supply room. We receive threatening practicewide emails about not having enough CPE, yet the firm eliminated all external training sponsorship and almost all internal training.

Pros

The only good things about Crowe is the the benefits. You get 4 weeks of PTO, Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401k. Their compensation is average if not below average. The staff and senior staff auditors are great individuals and you become friends outside of work.

Cons

The Partners are cut throat. Just like any other firm. They could care less about you. If you are not making money for them then you are basically getting cut. Also when they lose clients you can be sure there will be rounds of firings. Their evaluations are ridiculous and they base their final judgment on the individuals that give these evaluations. The chargeable hour goals are ridiculous to reach unless your working throughout they year and we all know that is impossible since there is downtime in the summer. There is not much communication between Partner and the rest of the staff. You never know whats going on with the company in your office. People always talk about their job security while working here.

Pros

The firm has a number of good people that work for it. Ultimately, the professionals want to see clients getting served and they perform good work. The firm provides many learning opportunities and allows people to be as successful as they want to be up until a point.

Cons

The biggest down side is the lack of direction and number of knee jerk reactions that the firm has made in the past 36 months. Management does not know where its focus should be. Should we move up market? Should we grow the geographic offices? Additionally, there is constant monitoring of the chargeable hours. The problem with all the monitoring is all the questions that arise from the monitoring that eats into the time available to complete chargeable work. Now it is a self perpetuating problem as you are consistently getting micro managed which ultimately indicates that management does not trust the work force. Also, I have serious issues with the consensus scoring and removing partner leadership and placing it in the hands of a few in the corporate offices. Globally the offices are different and they serve different types of clientele. Attempting to make a one size fits all approach is not reasonable and is making much of the support professionals itching to move on.
