Pros

The people, not including upper management.

Cons

I started there when it was United States Surgical, and on through the purchase of the company by Tyco and then by Covidien. I have watched the company go downhill in terms of how it treats its employees and how upper management squeezes the bottom tiers in order to make their bonuses, which are tied to how much money they can save, despite the fact that the company is making billions in profit. There have been large lay-offs and as that happens, the remaining workers have to pick up the slack. My area of the company is down to three day shift mechanics, from a high of 10 at one time. This leaves the remaining mechanics running around putting out fires, while preventative maintenance suffers. The stress level is intense. The company is also stripping us of benefits, having taken away our personal days and cutting our sick days. They have even started denying us the tools we need to our job! For the company it is all about how much money they can make. Not necessarily a bad thing, unless you are carving out that money from the foundation of your company - your employees.

Management Problems RMS

Pros

Good products, benefits and salaries. Some of the employees take pride in the product line and they are the ones that are continually let go, even top performers.

Cons

Management plays favorites. Promotions and layoffs decided not by how well you do or how bad you do. It has appeared to be a popularity contest. The company is legal heavy and finds reasons ( RIF) that covers them to layoff. For the past 4 years, the company has been managed this way. Promotions are the same way, instead of promoting the best person for positions it goes to the favorite. This could add the the downfall of this division. Surveys are taken and for some reason the employees are told good reports, which is hard to believe when you speak with many others and they have gave poor ratings. Work life balance is not existent to the company. There is unethical practices being pushed and followed by some employees and seen as a sales tactic. You are made to take test over and again about Ethics, which is contradicted by practice. Supposedly you can report this, anonymously but people that have, for some reason are let go ( RIF). Forget about thinking you want to retire with the company, if you make it 3 to 5 years, this is considered long term!
