Pros

They promote from within and because there are so many jobs at this location you can move around and explore different departments. Job security is excellent because the Medical field is a secure industry to work in and the company is well managed.

Cons

It is very hard to feel that you've made a difference or made improvements because of all the layers of management. You basically have to do what upper management wants and aren't allowed to make even small decisions. It is almost impossible to make a change because so many layers upon layers of executives have to approve even the smallest changes. No decisions ever get made executives just keep scheduling more meetings to discusss what might happen if a decision was made. I don't know how anything gets done everyone is afraid of making a mistake or taking responsibility for making a decision.

Pros

The people are incredible to work with. The workload is enormous, but it's that way for everyone. Everyone is supportive and understands that we are all in it together and we're all doing the best we can do. Everyone is a contributor and really cares about making the company successful. There is tremendous opportunity and the company is stable and growing. It's a nice industry to be in especially in a tough economy. It's rewarding to know that what you're doing is resulting in positive outcomes for patients and clinicians alike.

Cons

Workload is unrealistic, lack of communication and clear direction from Senior Management, a lot of "double work" going on. No clear processes are enforced and followed.

Pros

St Louis is a place with slower pace and there is not much pressure at work as a scientist. I work on making active drug ingredients that sell to big pharmaceutical companies. This makes me proud of my work because I am really helping people who are suffering. My managers were scientists themselves so they are supportive of my work to an extent. Salary and benefits are good for the living cost is low in this area. There are other social benefits since this company has been around this area for so long, such as subsidiary of zoo and botanic garden memberships.

Cons

Since this company has been around for very long and being sold many times, it is kind of like a step child mentality. The leadership is not strong enough to stand for their own vision as where things should go. Since paces are slow, there are bureaucracy everywhere. Work can be performed much more efficient if a few old dogs want to learn some new tricks, however, they are too comfortable where they are. The city center where the major part was located is not a good place. Research and development department was put there which is more difficult to attract talents.
