Pros

Covidien is a global company providing possibilities for profesional growth. New processes and project are being migrated therefore new positions are created and people have chance to advance if they desire so.

Cons

Covidien does not have a very good management, who can inspire people and make them want to work there and work hard. Communication is very poor and decisions are often made in contradiction to past experience or opinion.

Relationships not results

Pros

Pay is above average and they have bonuses. But this also creates a trap, get used to high pay and can't find comparable job then.

Cons

Continuous cycles of layoffs. They've been averaging a round of layoffs about every 6 months for the time I've been here. Promotions based on relationships more than results. It's often more of who you know, and how well they like you that provides opportunity. Very sterile culture. Departments work in their own silos. No team building, no esprit de corps. Leadership talks in clichés.

Management Problems RMS

Pros

Good products, benefits and salaries. Some of the employees take pride in the product line and they are the ones that are continually let go, even top performers.

Cons

Management plays favorites. Promotions and layoffs decided not by how well you do or how bad you do. It has appeared to be a popularity contest. The company is legal heavy and finds reasons ( RIF) that covers them to layoff. For the past 4 years, the company has been managed this way. Promotions are the same way, instead of promoting the best person for positions it goes to the favorite. This could add the the downfall of this division. Surveys are taken and for some reason the employees are told good reports, which is hard to believe when you speak with many others and they have gave poor ratings. Work life balance is not existent to the company. There is unethical practices being pushed and followed by some employees and seen as a sales tactic. You are made to take test over and again about Ethics, which is contradicted by practice. Supposedly you can report this, anonymously but people that have, for some reason are let go ( RIF). Forget about thinking you want to retire with the company, if you make it 3 to 5 years, this is considered long term!
