Good overall- some bad groups

Pros

Cooley is a great firm IN GENERAL. Everyone seems pretty happy.

Cons

There are certain groups within the firm (within certain practice groups at certain offices) that are nearly impossible to work for. Be wary of joining a group that consists entirely of attorneys from another firm that moved together- they do not represent Cooley well. As someone stuck in that situation, I would NOT recommend Cooley. When able to work with others outside of "the" group, it's a great place. So, really, a mixed bag.

Pros

Pros, there are not any pros, they are just all cons

Cons

Cooley attorneys are the most stuck-up, self idolizing humans that you will ever meet. Stuck up and hateful. Overall, the law firm is generous but with themselves only, They treat their lower staff and legal vendors like dirt under their shoes. They all think they are better than everyone else and they talk really bad about their client's behind their backs. Senior management are completely clueless and allow their middle management dummies to do all their thinking. No business minds here, only self perpetuating snobs

Positive firm culture, but poor department management

Pros

- firm as a whole values staff as much as attorneys - firm culture embraces diversity and transparency - good base salary - yearly bonuses - active lifestyle health incentives

Cons

- rapidly growing departments, but under staffed - demanding, high pressure work with little recognition - no growth opportunities - managers are looking for workhorses and do not prioritize providing professional value and job satisfaction - minimal PTO and expensive (and limited) medical benefits
