Pros

Great relationship with students, fun team, rewarding because of students

Cons

Long hours, unsupported by staff both at city year and schoolhouse, not getting my full Segal Award (~$7300) as promised in the beginning. This service year, City Year made us sign a new contract due to DOGE demands that we end service on April 25th. City Year told us to continue service even with this demand. 3 weeks later, they hold a last minute meeting telling us that we have to sign this new contract and that the past 3 weeks of service DON'T COUNT toward our hours. Instead, they slap up with this new contract, that we have to reach 300 hours with 4 weeks left of service, practically impossible unless you work over 12.5hrs a day, and partial weekends, even then, you still won't get the full award. You get partial of the award (prorated), and then IF you complete the 300hrs, you get along 1500, which still DOES NOT equal the full 7300 amount. Yeah, then they expect you to thank them for this new contract. By the end of the service year, I will make my hours, but not get the full Segal Award. I'm sorry, but city year is not worth the long hours, low pay, and staff that won't fight for you.
