      When oil price is high company values and pays for development of employees, helps move people around and cannot keep track of its spending.

      Cons

      When oil prices crashed company scrambled for easy savings, laid off thousands of people with no notice or regards for their tenure and performance.

      Ethical company. Big emphasis in doing things the right way. Interesting technical challenges Good benefits.

      Cons

      Technical people face a glass ceiling. It is clear that chances to advance beyond a certain level are restricted. Senior technical experts or even well respected X-technical people don't seem to be put into leadership roles that would be logical. Job selection is more based on management than actual contributions. If management likes you then no matter how big the screwup you are rewarded. For the rest-nothing.

      Some positions have really good work A lot of exposure to different parts of the business Big company so there are a lot of networking opportunities

      Cons

      Oil prices are low, they're laying off a lot of people Lots of politics involved They don't like people with any type of personality, you must be a "yes" man and give no push back You will be stuck in the analyst pool for at least 5 years, which does not look good to other potential employers
