Pros

PTO package is rather nice for me. We work a 2-2-3 week, 12 hour shifts. One week we get 8 hours overtime as our regular schedule. Therefore, one can take 2 PTO days and get a week off work. There is an incentive program and when the sun and the moon line up perfectly you get a bonus

Cons

Management sucks!!! Supervisors do not want to do their jobs correctly so a few employees do the work while the others who are supervisors friends sit around doing nothing all day. Basically lower management lies to the peon and upper management, then Upper management lies to everyone. We are trying to do a proper job with equipment that only minimally works. And some equipment and rooms don't work at all. Management doesn't want to put money into fixing equipment we already have that is broken. But they have spent money on equipment that is never put into use because it was never validated. They start projects and within weeks they lose interest and go on to something else. Staff has been cut back to skeleton level and some weeks there simply isn't enough work to keep us busy and other weeks we are slammed. Between problems with scheduling and raw material availability , there seems to be no communication at all. The work area is filthy by my standards but they seem to think if is fine.

Serious Leadership and Culture Problems

Pros

Some wonderful and very dedicated colleagues Opportunity to work from home Meaningful work mission So much potential

Cons

It is a sweatshop. Staff and processes are routinely scheduled beyond capacity. There is no prioritization, just management by nagging. People are put into competition for an insufficient amount of resources and then held accountable if they don't win what they need. This leads to some bad behaviors. There can be a lack of cooperation among departments. Information hoarding and territorialism are real problems. Long hours are expected, forfeited PTO is common, and there is constant intense pressure to do more work, faster. If something goes wrong, the usual leadership reaction is to find someone to blame instead of fixing the business problem. Several of the leaders can be really disrespectful or aggressive when interacting with staff. More than one person has told me war stories about having survived managers who frequently drove them to tears. Needless to say, turnover is very high.

Pros

4 day work week, good jumping off point for other jobs, good people and friends abound. Job is easy to do and will often lead to having free time during the day/week.

Cons

Horrible management in the manufacturing department. Turnover in manufacturing leads to retention bonuses being unfairly distributed to employees on an arbitrary basis and management seems to have no problem with this. If you bring up bonuses to the management they will lie and tell you they are not aware of bonuses being given out and that you should focus on your own pay. Promotions are extremely hard to come by as the "cycles" are twice a year, and only two members of each shift/team can be promoted at each time. Director level management fabricated a rule that you must be in your position 1.75 years in order to be promoted, thus going against their own created job roles (one year of experience for associate III, two for senior associate I, etc.). This rule is wrought with irony when higher ups themselves are inexperienced and do not meet this rule. If you pride yourself on being a hard worker you will find yourself surrounded by free riders, which could be a good or bad thing depending on who you are.
