Pros

Medical Field. Most of the employees were ex-Kodak and thus shared a common set of corporate values and culture. Quartly town hall meetings are a great means for keeping the entire company up to speed. The company has some significant competitors in the likes of GE, Siemans and Phillips. CSH holds a lions share of the market in dental imaging, at least in the US. It is trying to aggressively gain exposure and market share in the greater Asia region. Some excellent IT projects underway which will allow for unified message, VOIP and other IT tools for making sharing of info easy.

Cons

Privately held by a Canadian holding company ... thus company financial info was not as transparent as that found in publicly owned companies. Many good people came over from Kodak, however so did some non performers. Company is stuggling to make digital side of its business become profitable and is relying on its more traditional businesses much like Kodak did. Management seemed a bit slow in making strategic decisions during the separation from Eastman Kodak - much time was lost especially in getting the application and infrastructure moved over from Kodak. It was disappointed to see layoffs and downsizing so shortly after the separation from kodak - only 6 months.

Pros

Great industry - the business of improving the healthcare system. Carestream Health people in the field, in acquired companies and in remote locations are dedicated professionals focused on making a difference. They are driven by results and find ways to circumvent the bureaucracy. The Kodak brand they carry for the short term continues to open doors to customers.

Cons

management has struggled unsuccessfully for too many years how to grow the business. As a result of too many failed plans, good people have left or been asked to leave. Ineffective leaders are not moved aside or removed. The stagnant leadership remains the same. Ultimately CSH is evolving into a marketing shell that will outsource its portfolio, leaving field reps to struggle with system integration and dissatisfied customers.

Pros

Peer to peer respect. Personnel with great knowledge of the market. Market growth potiential especially as boomer health/age curve rapidly approaching.

Cons

Little fish in a pond of larger fish. Can a niche be found to overcome this market position? Management carry-over from Kodak Health Imaging; some new blood may have been a better course of action.
