Pros

No haggling on prices, customers have 5 day money back, great environment, No quotas, won't get fired if you don't sale a car

Cons

Strictly commission, $160 per car you sale, $100 if they get a service plan and $15 for credit applications. But you don't get paid to go to the daily meetings but they are mandatory, you don't get paid for appraisals, nor test drives but you can't say no. And they will pay you minimum wage based off the hours you work only if you made less then that amount selling cars. BUT THEY WILL DEDUCT IT FROM YOUR NEXT CHECK! CHEAP

Pros

Great employees from my first day to my eventual last day i've had great experiences with my co workers. I am an inventory associate. being prior military falling into the set procedures and rules was a simple transition. cars cars cars i drove so many different cars every day that i lost some of my interest in them. great employee discounts on wholesales. the hours allthough daunting at first 5am-2pm or 3pm-11pm for production team or 8am-5pm for retail team were great i worked 5-2 was always home to see my kids get home from school. EIGHT YEARS of being fortunes 100 best companies to work for. GREAT cars come from carmax flat out to know that the car on the lot is as good as it can possibly ever be and that the customer is going home with a great car gives an ENORMOUS sense of job satisfaction.

Cons

mandatory overtime happens yes its illegal but part of the contract you sign makes it ok for them to schedule you for the company's needs. management is clueless or waits till last minute for critical tasks that need to get done. compensation is terrible i cant afford the 420 a month insurance for my family which is why im still job hunting. promotions are supposedly based off of a "training matrix" but i have worked for carmax for 3 months now and i still am not on the list. 6 years in the military training leading soldiers into some of the nastiest situations and out alive didnt mean i was worth more than 10 an hour or a management. working out in the elements regardless of the temperature in nothing but your carmax uniform and jackets SUCKS.

Pros

Straight salary. No commission like sales associates. Bonus is great if you max out, able to bonus monthly. For retail, hours are great. Never work pass 9pm. Even though your salary you are only scheduled 40 hours, sometimes you stay late, but not often. Discount on cars. Not so much for the cars carmax sells to anyone but for the whole sale cars they auction weekly to other dealers. You can buy these at cost and flip them for a Huge profit. Fun job, open check book to buy cars.

Cons

Traveling. Most auctions are local but you can be put on a traveling team requiring over night travel. However, airline miles and hotel points are yours to keep. Politics, some people are content as a buyer and are great. Others want to be senior buyers and purchasing managers, these are the ones you need to watch out for, they will run you over, then back up back over you. Micro managing. It's an easy job once your a buyer, but while you are a buyer in training every move you make and every decision you make will be scrutinized. Don't get on the bad side of the senior buyers and purchasing managers or you will be promoted to customer.
