Flexible but Poor Compensation

Pros

You get to talk to a lot of different people from around the world. You can practice your social skills by talking with people who may think differently than you do. Most subscribers take it seriously and really want to learn anything you can teach them, which is really rewarding. The schedule is very flexible. There are no minimum hours you need to work, so you can fit it in around your schedule. If you need to take a week off, there's no penalty. You can work as little or as much as you like.

Cons

The pay is not the best. You get paid $0.17 for each talking minute you spend with a student. When you start working for Cambly, you have to sign up for "Priority Hours", which means you will get calls fielded to you through the system for the hour that you signed up. Sometimes you may get a student that will call in, a lot of times you don't. Cambly will compensate you for 15 minutes of the hour, which rounds up to about $2.50 total. That's one of the most frustrating things about the system, because you can't control if a student will call in or not, and being paid two dollars for an entire hour is very discouraging.

everything is great but the pay

Pros

the learners are an amazing, fascinating diverse group platform easy to use learning materials generally good pay is regular (weekly to your Paypal) and calculated automatically setting up regular lessons with learners easy and no-fuss

Cons

the pay the pay the pay seriously? $10.20 an hour??? the new Group Lessons are problematic because learners don't know their own level (understandably), so beginners sign up for the advanced group lesson and then you might have two advanced learners with one beginner and it's really awkward. for individual lessons, the teacher can easily adjust to the learner's level, but with a group of three, it's imperative that they be of at least similar levels. For me, it works as I'm between things now and teaching on Cambly is easy and extremely enjoyable -- i love my people! -- but it is not a sustainable 'job' much less a career
