Pros

Diverse workplace, fully supportive of the LGBT community. Company is not hypocritical with their core principle which is striving for better health.

Cons

Tendency to make sudden and sometimes irrational change. This is the name of increased efficiency to reduce long term cost. Instead of it being innovative they wind up trying to reinvent the wheel. Example recently we have changed our standard operating procedure for hipaa verification. instead of asking for a rx number or ID number we have to search using name and date of birth. Rational given it will help decrease the time it takes to locate a person info. The problem is due to regional accents and non-English names it can take 3 to 5 times longer than if I had typed in a series of numbers. If you try to use anything else you will be penalized by QA audit. To illustrate why this is a big deal. Before this change we had verify at least one primary authenticator and four authenticators altogether.Id number, rx number and medication name are primary authenticators. Secondary authenticators are date of birth, address, insurer name, phone numbers, medical condition. Hipaa authentication could be any combination as long as verify at least one primary in no particular order. Now we are scripted and have to ask name , date of birth and zipcode in that exact order. Then we ask for either medication name or rx number. If that not possible then Id number. Unfortunately patients aren't scripted and this leads long and at times awkward conversations. Before this change I could verify without effort two authenticators without asking for it. Most time when someone talks to you about medication more than half time they give a name. Since QA reports play significant port of your performance if effects raises and bonuses. Now as employee do I strive help a patient in the quickest most efficient way or do I try to meet the company shallow hipaa standards regardless of verbal context?
