Pros
Teaching children valuable life and educational skills. I was able to work with children who were in desperate need of a patient and kind teacher.
Cons
The assistant teacher position is actually a co-teacher position, you do the same work as the lead teacher and you make $5 less. It is advertised as a teaching assistant, which is completely innacurate. You will do ILPs, and documentation’s on students (most Lead’s give the assistant teacher half of the students to due documentation’s for). Due to the large classroom size (nearly 20 children for pre-school) just to be able to use the rest room you have to call for another teacher to stand in for you, causing you to oftentimes hold your urine etc. for an inhumane amount of time. Despite all of the mountains of professional paperwork, the Teaching Assistant is paid basically nothing. My lead teacher was violent, harassed and disrespected not only me, but the children and the parents, and nothing was done by HR or the director.
