      Toxic environment, stay away

      Salary, benefits, perks, happy hour, location.

      Cons

      Had a manager who had no idea of people management. She was a new manager not much experienced. No matter what I did or how long I worked she wouldn’t be happy. Perhaps it was my accent or background. She wouldn’t recognize my work. She would steal ideas and work from me and present to her manager as if they were coming straight from her. No recognition. No teamwork. The environment was toxic. Everyone had their favorites didn’t matter what you did. constant cost cutting, reorg, lay offs.

      It WAS a good company only 3 years ago..! Such a shame looking at it now...

      Pros

      Great people, excellent professionals, strong scientist used to work at Biogen, formerly Biogen-Idec. Some of them are still there working hard - and they deserve a lot better than what they have now. Only due to them, the above overall rating was set as high as "two stars".

      Cons

      Professional and business values are in total neglect for quite a while, coming from the top management. The culture at the upper level is that of "old friends". Good work, good science, integrity, loyalty to and care for the company are not appreciated, opposing views are retaliated. Honest and smart people are replaced by convenient ones. Being "yes sir" toward the upper management, being "visible" to them and "knowing someone up there" are critical for success and promotions. "Care deeply, work fearlessly...", the famous motto of Biogen now sounds like a mockery. People are afraid to care, to work and to speak up. Recent stock drop comes at no surprise.

      Great company to work for, for men

      Pros

      Very competitive salary and benefits. Respect for work life balance. Paid parking in Cambridge and alternative commuter options.

      Cons

      Promotions are less based on what you know and how you perform, than who you know and how well you conform to gender "norms". If you are a woman, be prepared to wear make-up and skirts, and understand that your salary is going to be inversely proportional to your weight.
