Pros

If you can get on with a fun management staff that does the job but bends the ridiculous policies you will be fine. Easy to advance as no one stays too terribly long. The only thing I truly loved was the fantastic insurance! I enjoyed it when I had a good store manager, one that had a good mix of enjoying the jobs and doing it well. Be warned, this is few and far between, if it exists outside of what I had at all!

Cons

No support from district or regional managers. Difficult to do the job. No support from store manager. Everyone is just out to advance. Inadequate pay for the demands of the job. Not competitive whatsoever. Too much politics. The growth in the front range area is too much to handle for some district managers. Silly policies that seem like middle school. Company does not back its managers when managers enforce company policy. Dress code is the worst. Good luck merchandising and doing truck in a full business attire! Trying to get days off or take vacation was like using miles on a terrible credit card, it's all blacked out. You can absolutely take your vacation........ from January to march! Say goodbye to your personal life as you will never have anything resembling a regular schedule. It will feel like all you do is work! Poor life/work balance!

Pros

Fun atmosphere and the ability to talk about sports is always a plus.

Cons

People who work hard are not recognized. District and Regional Managers have a vague idea of what happens in their stores

Pros

They have a good management training system to teach you multiple aspects of business and retail management. You will do everything from clean the bathrooms and unloading a truck shipment to managing the store's cash flow, ordering supplies, creating employees schedules and merchandising.

Cons

Their culture doesn't match the product. It's a discount sporting goods store, but they require their employees to wear a shirt and tie like it's a high end clothing retailer. ?? There isn't an incentive program in place, so pretty much everyone is just going through the motions and waiting their time for openings to happen.
