Pros

- On some teams work/life balance can be good - Some managers might be more flexible than others - Above average benefits

Cons

- REDUNDANCIES every 6-12 months. This has been going on for a few years now and it doesn't seem to stop. Nobody is safe at any moment, doesn't matter if you've been working at the bank 30+ years or just joined few weeks ago. Yesterday it was your friend's team, tomorrow will be yours. And even if you feel that you are safe as your team had redundancies 6 months ago, you might be not and another round hits you. - Politics - A LOT - You see specific people get promoted multiple times in a few years because they have a good relationship with a senior leader. All the rest gets ignored and you might get no raise/bonus for a few years in a row, even if you are the highest performer in the team. If you cannot play the game, you have no chance to survive or progress. - Barclays was a great place with some amazing benefits and work/life balance. This is no longer the case. Especially, some senior leaders are working VERY LONG hours and are expecting you to do the same and reply to their e-mail instantly at 23:00 or 5:00 or both.

Pros

Flexibility Hybrid working- although you are forced into the office on set days and attendance is monitored

Cons

Toxic work culture driven by MD level leadership “Yes person” culture. If you challenge the status quo you will be sidelined Very cliquey at senior levels so the most toxic people hold the most sway A lot of red tape which makes it very slow to deliver Locked down laptops that limit what you can find online to support A lot of micromanagement

Pros

The Group CIO seems to have a reasonable strategy. Benefits are good.

Cons

Lots of people have non-jobs and just float around opining on things but don't really do anything. Some senior leader are really poor quality but because there is still an old boys club so they will never be weeded out and are never held to account by HR. Bizarre approach to diversity and inclusion, over promote females and watch them fail as if to prove some point. They say the words about D&I but its superficial.
