BEWARE redundancies and toxic culture
Pros
- On some teams work/life balance can be good - Some managers might be more flexible than others - Above average benefits
Cons
- REDUNDANCIES every 6-12 months. This has been going on for a few years now and it doesn't seem to stop. Nobody is safe at any moment, doesn't matter if you've been working at the bank 30+ years or just joined few weeks ago. Yesterday it was your friend's team, tomorrow will be yours. And even if you feel that you are safe as your team had redundancies 6 months ago, you might be not and another round hits you. - Politics - A LOT - You see specific people get promoted multiple times in a few years because they have a good relationship with a senior leader. All the rest gets ignored and you might get no raise/bonus for a few years in a row, even if you are the highest performer in the team. If you cannot play the game, you have no chance to survive or progress. - Barclays was a great place with some amazing benefits and work/life balance. This is no longer the case. Especially, some senior leaders are working VERY LONG hours and are expecting you to do the same and reply to their e-mail instantly at 23:00 or 5:00 or both.
